Tips to Keep Your Mouth Healthy While on Vacation

There’s nothing like a vacation to catch a break from your daily routine and immerse yourself in something different and new. But, while you’re enjoying your break, make sure you don’t forget about keeping your mouth healthy and fresh. These tips will help.

Pick the right toothbrush container: Use a ventilated, clean container to store your toothbrush in. Choosing a holder that is ventilated can help you keep your toothbrush dry and reduce the chances of bacteria growing on it. Once you reach your hotel, leave the toothbrush out so it can dry completely.

Pack a dental kit: Whether you’re going away for two days or a month, it’s important to pack your dental kit with everything you’ll need. This includes toothpaste, mouthwash, floss pickets, etc. Just pack travel-size versions of your favorite supplies to ensure you aren’t packing too much.

Limit your intake of sugar: Healthy habits while on vacation are essential. So, while it may be tempting to load up on sugary foods, it’s best to balance your meals with healthy options, especially if you know you can’t brush immediately after your meal. When in doubt about what foods to eat or drinks to drink while vacationing, consult your dentist.

Chew gum: Keep your teeth feeling fresh and healthy while on vacation with this sweet travel tip.  Try chewing sugar-free gum after every meal and snack to help prevent tooth decay and cavities— especially when traveling.

Stick to your schedule: Whether you’re hitting the slopes in Aspen, renting a sailboat in Bora Bora, or sightseeing with friends in Barcelona, make sure that you keep up with your regular dental routine. By doing so, you’ll be doing more than just protecting your smile – you’ll protect your overall health and save cash in the process.

Schedule a consultation with your doctor: Going away on vacation is a great way to relax and unwind after a long work week, but you may need some preventative measures on your teeth. By scheduling a dental appointment before you go, you can keep your teeth healthy.
